KDD Cup Dataset
ACM Special Interest Group on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining-sponsored Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery competition for 1999 provided a dataset that was a subset of the MIT / DARPA IDEval data set.
The task for the 1999 competition was as follows: ". . . to build a network intrusion detector, a predictive model capable of distinguishing between 'bad' connections, called intrusions or attacks, and 'good' normal connections. This database contains a standard set of data to be audited, which includes a wide variety of intrusions simulated in a military network environment."
While it shares the same data, this dataset is more manageable and accessible than the one previously built as part of the 1998 DARPA Intrusion Detection Evaluation Program, which was prepared and managed by MIT Lincoln Labs. The objective was to survey and evaluate research in intrusion detection. A standard set of data to be audited, which includes a wide variety of intrusions simulated in that military network environment, was provided.
